Considering the Current

Perhaps I was living in business, rather than being in the business of living?

Through 2016-17, I studied to complete a practice-based MRes Art at Northumbria University. Through a process of co-operative enquiry, I delivered a series of interviews & art workshops with community groups and residents from Upper Teesdale over a 9 month period, to develop collaborative creative responses that culminated in a public performance in June 2017.

Inspired by the work of Yi Fu Tuan, Considering the Current focussed on the concept of “home”, exploring the emotional and physical connection that participants held with where they lived; and mapping a web of individual and collective memories that was used as the catalyst for creativity. The workshops sparked the creation of new folk music, dance and local myths about the River Tees, thinking of it as the progenitor of the dale - and as such - acting as an unreliable narrator tracing over 10,000 years of human existence in the area.
